These are hand-stitched umbrellas that are made using handwoven natural fibres. The decorations consist of cotton parasols, which are dyed in a specific pattern called bandhani, which is also famous in many saree and lehenga styles throughout India, native to rural Rajasthan. Other decorations include embroidered sequins, mirrors, and silk thread in circular mandala patterns. These can be used for various functional and decorative purposes. They are commonly hung at weddings and festivals to set a festive setting. The female artists have kept this style alive with the help of self-help groups in Ajmer.
