These small decorative boxes are made of multiple layers of recycled newspaper, rice straws, and copper sulfate. This process takes several days and creates a very smooth surface to paint. Each lif is hand-painted with ultra-fine brushes using multiple layers of lacquer for the glossy and shiny look. This is a classic and traditional method from the Naqast tradition that has been practiced in Kashmir’s Dal Lake villages for more than 600 years.
